The following information was compiled for a client asking about salt tolerant planting:
The link below is excellent and highlights native plants which have adapted to our region. They would be the most trouble free and adjust to the relative harsh conditions for  many other plants.  A bonus is that natives also bring in wildlife that will use them for cover and food. Any birds that these plants attract will also help you by feeding on the insect  your garden. The plants listed are almost all trees and shrubs which will help stabilize any bank area.
There are many suggestions in these links below as well as interesting reading.  Some of them are not local yet the plants mentioned would probably do well here.
