Hosta lovers around the world remember Naylor Creek Nursery in Chimacum as “a little bit of hosta heaven.”

In September 2021, the estate of the founder and owner of Naylor Creek Hostas generously donated their remaining plant inventory to the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation. This generous gift led to the “great hosta rescue,” as Master Gardeners collected and cared for several thousand plants over the winter. New growth is beginning to emerge this spring.

Hundreds of these hostas will be offered for sale at the JCMGF plant sale, including unusual and rare varieties. They include new plant introductions from Naylor Creek’s group of respected hybridizers.

The plants are well-suited to our conditions here in the maritime northwest. Most will thrive in light to full shade in soil rich with organic matter. They prefer moist, well-drained soil, but are drought tolerant once established.

We’d love to honor the legacy of Naylor Creek Nursery and find these special plants new homes. To learn more about the hostas offered, visit the Plant Sale on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Chimacum High School. (Photo by John Matychuk on Unsplash.com)
