Shy Acres Farm
(2021-22 Project Grant)
Shy Acres houses a BIPOC community off Discovery Road in Port Townsend. A broad fork, hand tools, soil and compost were requested for use in four gardens:
Ancestors Garden, Community Garden, Hugelkultur Garden, Listen Garden
A total of 250 pounds of orchard fruit and 268 pounds of produce were grown. The Shy Acre harvest-sharing served 50 families community-wide. They participated in the Organic Seed Alliance/WSU’s Community Seed sweet corn and black bean project; their crops were successful and they were able to “give back” seed from both crops.
The Heart Berries preschoolers to community elders also participated by using their gardens as a venue and source of art/activity materials for Dia de Los Muertos and Winter Solstice celebrations.
